Slovensky, Joseph J., 82, "Slo", Richland Township, passed away April 6, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Born August 17, 1934 and raised in Cairnbrook, PA.  Son of the late Joseph and Mary (Marko) Slovensky. Preceded in death by grandson, Joseph A. Jr. Survived by loving wife, Olivia (Bonitz) Slovensky, Richland; children, Joseph A. husband of Cheryl (Schofield) Slovensky, Va; Jacqueline L. McQuaide-Slovensky and significant other, Andy Cerula, Richland; Joni wife of Bruce Schofield, Va; and Janine wife of Jeff Ribblett, Richland; grandchildren, Jocelyn Hernandez, Patrick and Derick McQuaide; Hunter Marie and Laken Schofield, Mitchell and Michael Hoffman; great grandchild, Storm Hernandez; sister, Barbara and husband Lenny Russell, Richland; nieces, Renee Stephens and Connie Grunza and her son, Russell Grunza. Also step grandchildren Danielle Grieco married to Patrick, VA and Haley Burk married to Matt and their children Callisi and Arya, PA. Joe was known for playing his accordion and listening to his "polkas" and for his love of football. He was an avid Steeler football fan.  Also, he was a history buff especially World War II and General Patton.  He was a graduate of Shade High school, attended William and Mary College and graduated from Tampa University of Florida while on a scholarship. He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a retired teacher and football coach from Conemaugh Valley School District, prior to this he taught and coached at the former Forbes High school.  Member of the Moxham PNA and St. Patrick Catholic Church. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at MOSKAL & KENNEDY COLONIAL FUNERAL HOME, Johnstown, where vigil service will be held in the afternoon. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the funeral home with Fr. Walter Moll. Committal will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A very special thank you goes out to Carol Konchan-his compassionate caregiver during his illness along with Dr. Massoud for his medical loyalty over the past several years and Conemaugh hospice and their palliative care unit. And also to all the staff and people who have helped care for Joe throughout the years.  He was loved by all who knew him "nicest Joe".  He will be terribly missed by children and grandchildren, wife, Olivia-whom he shared a marriage of 58 years.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Conemaugh Valley Athletics in his memory.
